Every piece of rental gear belongs to a category. Categories carry the rental rates, decide how stock is counted, and hold the service rules. They live under Settings, then Categories in the Equipment group.
The nine categories you start with
A new dive center comes with BCD, Regulator, Tank and Dive computer tracked individually, and Wetsuit, Fins, Mask, Boots and Weights as pools. Regulator carries a 12-month service rule; Tank carries a yearly visual inspection and a hydrostatic test every five years. None has a rate yet.
Serialized or pooled
- Serialized categories track each item by its own label, with an optional serial number: regulators, tanks, computers.
- Pooled categories track a quantity per size: wetsuits, fins, masks.
The tracking mode is locked once a category has items or stock.
Add or edit a category
Press Add category:
- Name, unique.
- Tracking mode.
- Daily rate and Trip rate, both optional. A rental per trip charges the trip rate once per unit; a rental over a date range charges the daily rate per unit per day. A category with no rate rents at no charge, and each rental keeps the rate it was created with. Emptying a saved rate keeps the old one, so enter 0 to stop charging.
- Service rules: press Add rule for each, with a Rule name and an interval in Months from 1 to 120. Up to 20 rules.
Save with Add category or Save changes. Drag the rows to set the order the categories appear in on the Equipment page and in the rental dialog.
Disable instead of delete
There is no delete. The switch on each category row takes a category out of circulation: it disappears from the Equipment page, the rental dialog and the guest catalogue, and nothing can be rented from it. Existing rentals and stock stay as they are.
Limits
Up to 50 categories, disabled ones included. Item labels in serialized categories must be unique across the whole dive center, archived items included, not only within the category.
