Returns, damage and overdue gear

Open a rental from the list to reach its panel: the customer, the dates, the pricing breakdown, the note, and every line with its state.

Return gear

Press Return on a line, or Return all. For each line choose the condition: OK, Damaged or Lost, and for the last two you can add a Note. Confirm with Return … items. Partial returns are normal; the rental turns Returned only when the last open line is back.

In a date range rental, a returned line is charged up to the day it was marked returned rather than the rental's end date. A bundle keeps charging until its last component is back.

Overdue

A rental whose end date has passed with lines still out is Overdue. It gets an amber border in the list, the summary strip counts it, the dashboard shows Overdue returns with the days overdue, and the attention strip links there. Late gear stays committed in the availability count until it is returned. A late per-trip rental blocks that gear for every departure, not only the one it left on.

Extend or adjust

The pencil on the panel opens Edit rental, where you can change the End date of a date range rental, the Note, and the Total override. The override replaces the computed total; a discount on the bill is a line discount, see Discounts; the computed figure stays visible, struck through. The Total override field is only there for people who may see prices; for everyone else a rental shows no amounts. Emptying the Note removes it, and emptying the Total override hands the total back to the computed one. A per-trip rental's dates follow the departure slot and cannot be changed.

Cancel

Cancel rental cancels the whole rental. It is only possible before any line has been returned.

Where else it shows

The customer's Activity tab lists their Rental history with dates, items, total (for people who may see prices) and status. The dashboard's Due back today panel lists today's returns and how many units are out.

The bill

The rental is on the guest's bill from the moment it is created, and the line is updated when the gear comes back or the rental is edited, so a late return is charged up to the day it is marked returned. The link "Charged to bill 12 (Anna Berg)" on the rental opens the bill it lands on. See Bills.
