The departure board shows one departure on a single screen: every boat leaving at that time, its dive groups with their guide or instructor, each diver with their highest certification, and who has checked in. It has no buttons to change anything and keeps itself up to date, so you can leave it running on a TV in the shop or on the jetty.

Open the board

  • On Boat trips, press Departure board at the top.
  • In the calendar's day view, press Departure board next to the date to open that day.
  • On a trip page, press Board in the header (on a phone, Show on the departure board in the ⋮ menu) to open that trip's departure.

The board opens full width without the sidebar.

What it shows

The header has your logo, or your dive center's name if you have none, the day's departures, the clock and a Live sign.

Each boat has a column: the departure time, the boat, a check-in count such as "3/8" with a green bar that fills up, the dive sites in order and the boat master. Under it come the dive groups, each with its name, zone, course name for a course group, and the number of divers out of the group's maximum. The count turns amber when the group is over its maximum. Divers marked as a no-show do not count.

Each group starts with its staff, INST for an instructor and DM for a divemaster, the leader first. Then come the divers:

  • A green tick means checked in, an empty ring means expected, and a dashed ring means the booking is not confirmed yet.
  • A no-show is faded and crossed out.
  • The code on the right is the diver's highest certification, for example AOW. Cards marked not valid are left out.
  • A document icon means a form they need is not signed or runs out before the trip day ends.
  • A shield means the certification shown has not been verified. See Verify a diver's certifications.
  • A backpack means rental gear was asked for and is not handed out yet.

Guests who booked a boat but have no group yet appear under that boat as No group yet. Guests of the departure with no boat at all appear in their own Not on a boat yet column. People staying on board, such as snorkelers, are listed at the bottom of their boat. A legend at the bottom of the screen explains the icons.

The text shrinks by itself so the whole departure fits on the screen.

Which departure it shows

Unless you pick one, the board follows the next departure. A departure stays on the board until 30 minutes after it leaves, then the board moves on to the next one. Once the day's last departure with boats is 30 minutes past, the board shows That's all for today, how many boats went out and the departures of the next day with boats, for example tomorrow's, each with its boats, their dive sites and how many places are left. It shows as many departures as fit on the screen and says how many more follow. While a boat still has room, it adds "Want to join? Ask at the desk." On a day without boats it shows No boats go out today with the next departure.

Press a departure at the top to keep the board on it, or use the left and right arrow keys. Next departure makes the board follow the next one again. Departures without boats are shown faded.

Modes

Each TV link has a Mode; on your own device the same choice sits in the bar at the top.

  • Information shows the departure, as described above.
  • Promotion promotes today's departures that have not left yet under Come diving with us today, each with its boats, dive sites and places left. Once none is left today, it promotes the next day's departures.
  • Combined promotes until an hour before the next departure, then switches between the departure and the promotion every 30 seconds with a fade, and from half an hour before shows the departure alone until 30 minutes after it leaves. Between two departures it starts over for the next one.

A departure picked at the top always shows the departure itself. After the day's last departure, every mode shows the end-of-day screen.

Updates

The board asks for news every 15 seconds. A check-in, a new group, another boat master or a changed dive site made anywhere else in DivePilot shows up within that time. If the screen loses its connection, the sign next to the clock turns amber and reads "No connection" with the time of the last update, and the board keeps trying.

While the board is open, the screen is kept from going to sleep where the browser allows it, and the pointer hides when nobody moves the mouse.

On your own device

The signed-in board has a bar above the header:

  • Back to trips.
  • Short guest names shows guests as first name and initial, "Anna K.". Staff always show with their full name.
  • Gear sizes adds the rental sizes each guest asked for under their name.
  • Dark mode switches the board to dark; the board is light by default.
  • Full screen. In full screen the bar folds away after a few seconds without mouse movement and comes back when you move it.
  • Show on a TV opens the list of TV links, if you may manage them.

These choices are kept in the address, so a bookmark opens the board the same way.

Show it on a TV

A TV cannot sign in to DivePilot. Instead, each screen gets its own link that opens the board without signing in. Manage them under Settings > TV screens, or with Show on a TV on the board.

  1. Type a name for the screen, for example "Jetty TV", and press Add screen.
  2. Open the link in the TV's browser: press Copy and send it to the TV, or press the QR code button and scan it with the TV or a phone.
  3. Set how this screen looks: Guest names in full or as first name and initial, the Theme (Light, Dark, or Automatic to follow the screen's own setting) and Show gear sizes.

A change to a screen's settings reaches it within 15 seconds; nobody needs to touch the TV. Each screen shows when it last loaded the board. A dive center can have up to 20 screens.

Anyone who has a link sees your guests' names. If a link got out, choose Replace link from the screen's menu: the old link stops working at once, and you open the new one on the screen. Remove screen switches the link off for good. A screen with a link that no longer works says so, and so does a screen when your dive center cannot use DivePilot, for example after the subscription ended.

Short codes for certifications

The board shows each level's short code, such as OW, AOW, RD or DM. The standard levels come with one. To set or change a code, open Certifications, press the pencil next to a level and fill in Short code, up to 8 characters. A level without a code shows its full name. Your branding

The board uses your logo and your main colour from Settings > Branding. In dark mode the logo sits on a small white plate, so a logo drawn for a light background stays readable. See Upload your logo and colours.

Permissions

Opening the board needs the "board view" permission, which the Admin, Manager, Staff and Boat master presets include. Creating and changing TV links needs "display links manage", included in Admin and Manager. Both are in the Departure board group of the permission editor. See Permissions explained.
