You can move a running subscription from monthly to yearly billing or back. The plan and its features stay the same; only the billing cycle and the price change.

Before you switch

The option is under Settings, then Subscription: Switch to yearly billing when you pay monthly, Switch to monthly billing when you pay yearly. It disappears once you have cancelled the subscription. While the tab shows the red Payment issue card, it cannot load your plan and may offer Switch to yearly billing even when you pay yearly or have already cancelled, see When a payment fails.

If the very first payment of the subscription has not been confirmed yet, the switch is refused with "The subscription payment is not confirmed yet. Complete it before changing plans."

The new price is your region's price for the other cycle, see Plans and prices. If your dive center's country has changed since you subscribed, the switch moves you to the new region's price.

From monthly to yearly

  1. Press Switch to yearly billing. A window compares Current and New, for example "$79 / month" and "$790 / year".
  2. Read What happens when you switch. Charged today says "up to" the yearly price: the yearly price is invoiced at once, minus a credit for the part of the current month you paid for but have not used yet. The exact amount is on the invoice.
  3. Press Switch and pay up to … now to charge the card on file, or Keep current plan to close the window.

A message confirms "Plan updated". Your first year starts on the day you switch, and Renews on moves to one year later. The new invoice appears under Payment history once Stripe reports the payment; reload the page if it is not listed yet.

The switch also goes through, with the same message, when the card is declined or your bank asks you to approve the payment. The invoice then stays unpaid and is handled like a failed renewal, see When a payment fails.

From yearly to monthly

  1. Press Switch to monthly billing. The window shows Refund paid out: None.
  2. Press Switch to monthly billing in the window.

The unused part of your year is not paid back to your card. It becomes credit on your DivePilot billing account, and each monthly invoice is paid from that credit until it is used up. Only then does your card start being charged the monthly price. If what is left of your year is worth less than one monthly price, the difference is charged to your card on the day you switch.

The new monthly cycle starts on the day you switch, and Renews on shows the next monthly date. The window also says your paid yearly period runs until its old end date. What carries on is the credit, not the yearly period, and because a year costs less than twelve months, the credit runs out somewhat before that old end date.

While the credit lasts, the tab looks as if you had a discount: the plan card and Next charge show zero or a reduced amount, and the plan card adds the list price struck through and "Discount applied to your next payment", although no discount was given. Payment history lists those months as Paid with zero or a small amount. DivePilot does not show how much credit is left.

Note: A switch in either direction takes effect immediately. Switching back later never returns money to your card: whatever you have already paid only turns into credit, so decide before you press the button.

Good to know

  • Only the billing cycle can be switched. There are no other plans to move to.
  • The switch is not offered while a cancellation is pending. If you cancelled and want yearly billing, wait for the subscription to end and subscribe again with Yearly, see Cancel or restart your subscription.
