DivePilot runs in a web browser on computers, tablets and phones, with nothing to install. Most device problems come down to an old browser, a network that blocks part of the app, or a phone setting.
Supported browsers
| Browser | Minimum version |
|---|---|
| Google Chrome | 111 |
| Microsoft Edge | 111 |
| Mozilla Firefox | 114 |
| Safari on Mac, iPhone and iPad | 16.4 |
JavaScript must be switched on, and the browser has to allow DivePilot to store site data, because that is where your session is kept.
The page stays blank
An older browser does not show a warning: the page can simply stay empty. Update the browser, or on an iPhone or iPad update the system, since Safari comes with it. If the browser is up to date, try a private window to rule out an extension that blocks the page.
A network that blocks DivePilot
On an office or boat network with a firewall, ask whoever manages it to allow these addresses:
| Address | Used for |
|---|---|
my.divepilot.app and api.divepilot.app |
The app itself. Without the second, signing in fails with "Invalid email or password". If you were already signed in, lists stay empty, saving shows "Something went wrong" and the next page you open is the sign-in page. |
js.stripe.com, api.stripe.com, hooks.stripe.com and billing.stripe.com |
The payment form on the Subscription tab, card checks by your bank, and the Stripe portal that Payment method opens |
a.tile.openstreetmap.org, b.tile.openstreetmap.org, c.tile.openstreetmap.org and nominatim.openstreetmap.org |
The dive site map, and centring it on your country for a new site |
api.open-meteo.com and marine-api.open-meteo.com |
The Weather panel on the dashboard |
fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com |
The fixed-width font for codes, links and coordinates. Without it they show in your device's own fixed-width font; the main typeface comes with the app. |
On a phone or tablet
- On a screen narrower than 768 pixels, such as a phone, the sidebar opens from the menu button in the header, next to a search button and the bell.
- At that width the top bar is hidden, and with it the breadcrumbs and the language menu. Change your language under Edit profile instead.
- The trial and payment notices move to a strip under that header.
- Settings shows its tabs as a dropdown on anything narrower than a small laptop.
- The Users, Customers and Bookings lists turn into cards at that same width.
- To drag a diver to another dive group, press the dotted handle at the start of the row and move a little; a plain tap does not start a drag. A booking not yet in a group can instead be tapped to pick one under Assign to group.
There is no offline mode. You can add DivePilot to your home screen from the browser menu, but it still needs a connection for every page. More in Find your way around.
- The name suggested for the home screen icon can read "MySite" or "MyWebSite" instead of DivePilot. Change it to DivePilot before you confirm.
- On an iPhone or iPad, the home screen icon keeps its own sign-in, separate from Safari. Signing in through the icon counts as a second device and signs you out in Safari within 15 minutes, and the other way round. Use either the icon or Safari, not both. See I keep getting signed out.
The camera does not open
Take photo (Add another page after the first), in Photograph signed copy for waivers and in Add checklist on a trip, hands over to your phone's own camera. DivePilot has no viewfinder of its own and never asks the browser for camera access. If the camera does not open, allow the camera for your browser app in the phone's settings, or take the picture first and pick it with Choose file. On a computer, Take photo opens a file picker.
After taking the photo
DivePilot shrinks each photo and, when the device can, crops the page straight. The cropped scan is used when there is one. To switch, press the crop button on the page, or open the page and press Use the original photo, and Use the cropped scan to switch back. If cropping cannot run on your device, is not ready in time or finds no page in the photo, only the original is offered, without a message.
"This image format is not supported - use a JPEG or PNG photo" means the browser could not read the picture, which is common with HEIC photos copied from an iPhone to a computer. Size limits and the other upload messages are in An upload is refused.
