Open water sessions are dives, so they happen on boat trips. Assigning a session to a trip creates a dive group for the course on that trip.
Assign a session to a trip
On the course's Sessions tab, press Assign to boat trip on an open water session:
- Search the upcoming trips of the next 90 days, or press New trip to plan one without leaving the dialog.
- Set the Dive group name; it defaults to the session name.
- Optionally choose an Instructor for this session only. Otherwise the course instructor leads, unless an earlier assignment already gave this session its own instructor.
- Press Assign to trip.
The session takes the trip's date when it is assigned; if the trip is later moved to another date, the session keeps the old one until you unassign it and assign it again. A dive group with the course's students is created on the trip, sized by the course's Max students, or for 4 divers when the course has no limit. If there are more students than places, the assignment is refused. It is also refused if the instructor who leads already has another trip, a course session, a duty or time off at that time, or if you chose someone who has roles but not Instructor. Two sessions of the same course on the same trip share one group.
On the trip
The group carries a course badge that links back to the course. Students cannot be removed from the group on the trip page; instead Mark absent for this session records the absence and takes the student off the group, unless they are still pending or present on another session that shares it. Certification and waiver checks skip course groups on the trip. Enrolment checks the course prerequisite, not waivers; see Waiver expiry, renewal and checks for where students' waivers are flagged.
Unassign
Unassign from boat trip detaches the session. The group leaves the trip unless another session of the course still uses it. This is refused from the day after the session date, or once a student was already marked present.
Cancelling the course
Cancelling a course takes its groups off every trip dated today or later. Trips on earlier dates keep the group for the records.
Students enrolled later
A student enrolled after the sessions were assigned is added to the existing dive groups. If a group is already full, the enrolment fails with a message, so set or raise the course's student limit first.
