A course template is the blueprint of a course: what it awards, what it requires and which sessions it consists of. Templates live under Course templates in the Resources group of the sidebar, grouped by agency.
Create a template
Press Add template:
- Name, unique within your dive center, archived templates included, and an optional Description.
- Awards level: the certification granted automatically on completion. Choosing it also sets the template's agency.
- Prerequisite level: the certification a student must already hold to enrol. Without an awarded level, the prerequisite's agency is used.
- Active, on by default, makes the template available when planning new courses.
There is no price and no student limit on a template; the limit is set per course.
Add the sessions
Under Sessions, start from a preset or add rows one by one:
- Open Water (1 pool + 4 dives), Advanced (5 dives) or Theory + pool + 2 dives fill in typical rows you can then edit.
- Each row has a name, a Location of Pool, Shallow water, Open water, Classroom or Custom, a Day counted from the course start, a Start time and a Duration (min) in 15-minute steps between 15 minutes and 12 hours.
- Drag the handle to reorder. Up to 50 sessions per template.
Start and duration prefill the times when a session of a course is scheduled from the template, and a session scheduled without a date falls on its day. Open water sessions are the ones that later go onto a boat trip.
Note: Every save of a template replaces its whole session list, even when you changed nothing under Sessions. Sessions of courses already scheduled keep working, but they lose their link to the template row: those courses list every template session again as Not yet scheduled next to the sessions already scheduled, and reassigning a student to a makeup session involving them only goes through for a session marked Different slot, with a note. When the missed session is one of them, sessions in the same position are listed without that mark and refused with "The sessions cannot be matched by blueprint - an explicit override with a note is required".
The standard templates from the setup guide
If you ticked agencies under Course templates in the setup guide, DivePilot created their Open Water, Advanced and Rescue templates with the awarded and prerequisite levels set. They come without sessions; add those here before planning a course.
Deactivate, archive and restore
Untick Active to keep a template but hide it from the course and booking dialogs and from course start date requests on your booking page. Deleting a template archives it: courses already planned from it keep their sessions and students, but their sessions not yet scheduled stop showing until you restore the template from the Archived tab.
